At Poliklinika Golden Mind, we provide ADHD assessments for children aged six and over, adolescents and adults, through collaboration between a psychologist and a psychiatrist. The package combines a clinical consultation, a neuropsychological assessment and computer-based attention testing. The content of the assessment and the choice of tests are adapted to the person’s age and individual needs.

The assessment takes place over 2–3 visits to the clinic. The diagnostic process requires time for interviews, testing, analysis of the results and their integration into a professional conclusion.

What does the ADHD assessment package include?

Psychiatric consultation

The package includes a consultation with a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry for children and adolescents, or a specialist in psychiatry for adults.

The consultation involves a discussion of current difficulties, their development and their impact on everyday life. Particular attention is paid to symptoms during childhood, functioning in different settings and possible other or co-occurring difficulties.

For children and adolescents, information from parents or guardians and, where needed, from the school environment is an important part of the assessment. For adults, current difficulties and developmental history are considered, alongside available documentation and additional information from people close to the patient, where possible and with the patient’s consent.

The psychiatrist combines the information gathered with the results of the neuropsychological assessment and T.O.V.A. testing to reach a diagnostic conclusion and provide recommendations for the next steps.

Neuropsychological assessment

A psychologist conducts an interview and testing to assess the following, according to age and individual needs:

• cognitive abilities and memory

• attention and executive functions, such as planning, organisation and impulse control

• emotional functioning

• personality traits and other difficulties that may affect everyday functioning.

Depending on age and clinical indication, WISC-IV, WAIS-IV, MMPI-2, BYI-II, PAI, WMS and other instruments may be used in the assessment.

Tests are selected individually: not all of the listed instruments are used with every person. The results contribute to an understanding of overall functioning and are interpreted alongside other information gathered during the assessment.

T.O.V.A. attention test

T.O.V.A. is a standardised computer-based test that provides additional objective data on sustained attention and response control. During a simple task, it records response speed and consistency, as well as response errors.

At Poliklinika Golden Mind, we use the T.O.V.A. 9 system. The standard test takes approximately 22 minutes, with additional time for instructions and practice. The duration is adjusted according to age and the test administration guidelines.

T.O.V.A. cannot confirm or rule out ADHD on its own. The result is always considered alongside the clinical consultation, developmental history and the results of the neuropsychological assessment.

Who is the assessment for?

The assessment is intended for children, adolescents and adults with suspected ADHD, particularly when difficulties with attention, organisation, restlessness or impulsivity interfere with everyday functioning.

In children and adolescents, difficulties may be noticed in following lessons, learning, completing responsibilities, behaviour and relationships.

For adults, long-standing difficulties with completing tasks, managing time, forgetting commitments or maintaining concentration may be reasons to seek an assessment.

Similar difficulties can have different causes. The aim of the assessment is to determine whether the clinical picture is consistent with ADHD and to identify other or co-occurring difficulties.

What does the process involve?

1. Booking and preparation

When booking, you receive instructions for your visit and information about documentation that may be useful to bring, such as previous reports and available information about schooling and development.

2. Consultation and testing over 2–3 visits

The schedule and order of the individual parts of the assessment are arranged according to age and individual needs. The neuropsychological assessment, T.O.V.A. testing and psychiatric consultation are connected parts of the same diagnostic process.

3. Reports, conclusion and recommendations

Once the assessment is complete, you receive reports and a professional opinion with recommendations. If treatment or further assessment is needed, the psychiatrist recommends the next steps.

Includes the same package contents, with the consultation and assessment conducted in English and the relevant reports, professional opinion and recommendations provided in English. T.O.V.A. is a non-verbal test, and instructions and explanations of the results are given in English.
